A busy month in Ottawa & at home. We had extended sittings in the HOC to get Bills through before the House rises for the summer. We had extended Indigenous Affairs Committee meetings to get through our work on C-92, an Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families. Bill C-92 affirms the rights and jurisdiction of Indigenous peoples in relation to child and family services. I had the pleasure of meeting Veterans and military personnel, at Montgomery School, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Normandy and D-Day. It was a moving ceremony.

In my role on the Indigenous & Northern Affairs Committee, I was invited to attend the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York City. It was informative & will enhance my Committee work as we continue to study Community Capacity Building & Retention of Talent in First Nations Communities.

During the constituency break, I was able to meet with many constituents and groups that are looking for help from the federal government. I also had a chance to visit the majority of retirement residences in the riding and enjoyed my conversations with seniors. These are always very interesting chats. With the approaching election, things will no doubt begin to heat up. Our candidates met in Ottawa to prepare for the election. I enjoyed celebrating Christmas with my family and friends and it was great to see all of you who came out to my Christmas celebration at the WDM! I had a good week in the riding over the Thanksgiving constituency week. I had the chance to get caught up on some paperwork, meet with constituents and attend some events. The time seems to fly when I am home. On a more somber note, I want to extend my condolences to the congregants of Agudas Israel and Shir Chadash synagogues. It is a difficult time for all members of the Jewish faith and humanity as a whole. Ending the month with Halloween and the ghosts and goblins roaming the neighbourhoods!
