Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Luc Berthold, Conservative Shadow Minister for the Treasury Board, issued the following statement on how Canadians will be left behind by Justin Trudeau’s election budget:

“It’s clear Justin Trudeau’s election budget fails to put forward a plan to adequately fund healthcare, grow the economy, and create jobs. It’s not just Conservatives who are saying this, but senior members of Justin Trudeau’s team.

“Today, Robert Asselin, a former top advisor to Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau, stated that ‘it’s hard to find a coherent growth plan’ in the Liberal budget. Liberal MP Sean Casey even confirmed that the Liberal budget is ‘an election budget’.

“Instead of putting forward a plan to protect Canadians, grow the economy, and create jobs – the Liberals have put forward a budget focused on forcing Canadians to the polls. During the worst health crisis of our lifetime, and most severe economic downturn since the Great Depression, it’s shameful the only job Justin Trudeau is working on protecting is his own.

“The Liberals’ failure to also include support for Canada’s healthcare system in this budget is reprehensible. During an aggressive third wave of the pandemic, the Liberals found nearly half a trillion to spend on their re-election, yet not one nickel to provide Canadians the healthcare they need.

“Canada’s Conservatives have a plan to secure our healthcare and our economy, and to create jobs for all Canadians. That is our priority and our promise to Canadians.”
