Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is an important occasion to thank Veterans for their many sacrifices and honour our serving Canadian Armed Forces members.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the symbolic poppy that we wear so proudly from the last Friday in October until Remembrance Day. Royal Canadian Legion Branch members have been busy dropping off poppy boxes across the country. There are more than 1,350 Branches located in communities across Canada taking part in the Poppy fundraiser.
Legions play an integral role year-round in helping Veterans and their families. Built with a strong team of volunteers, they also support seniors, youth programs, and raise funds for the vulnerable.
I commend our Legions for their outstanding role in our communities and for hosting their memorable annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. I am always moved with the personal stories. The act of coming together and having a moment of silence is powerful. We should not limit our support towards Veterans to one day a year but should strive to show our gratitude all year.
Thank you to all our local heroes, past and present, for their service to this country.
