Ottawa, ON
 – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Ethics, and Jacques Gourde, MP for Lévis—Lotbinière, issued the following statement on the Liberal Party of Canada vetting judges to ensure they support Justin Trudeau:

“When concerns were first raised about the integrity of Justin Trudeau’s judicial appointments process, the Justice Minister said, ‘I have never been pressured to appoint any particular person to the bench. The decision to recommend a candidate to cabinet is mine alone. I make the decision based on the quality of the candidate as assessed by the CJC, the needs of the court, and the diversity of the judiciary. There is no partisanship in my decision-making process.’

“Through media reports, we now know the Justice Minister has been misleading Canadians. Simply, the Liberal Party of Canada has been vetting judges to ensure they support Justin Trudeau.

“Canada cannot afford to have further scandal and more of the same corruption from Justin Trudeau and the Liberals. Why did the Justice Minister mislead Canadians, and what is he trying to cover up for the Prime Minister?

“More scandals. More corruption. More cover-ups. That is what Canadians can expect from Justin Trudeau and the Liberals. There is only one choice to end their corruption and secure accountability in Ottawa – Canada’s Conservatives.”
