Holodomor Memorial Day

Today Canada commemorates National Holodomor Memorial Day.

In 1932-33, the Ukrainian nation was condemned to death by starvation by the Soviet Communist regime of Joseph Stalin. Millions of men, women and children were murdered by the Communist regime during the Holodomor Famine-Genocide, because of the Ukrainian people’s aspiration for independence, their desire to maintain their traditions and speak their language. This year, we solemnly commemorate the 86th anniversary of the Holodomor – the genocide of the Ukrainian people.

I encourage all Canadians to take a moment to remember the victims of the Holodomor:
At 19:32 (7:32 p.m.) local time pause for a moment of silence wherever one may be to honour the memory of the victims of the Holodomor.
Light a candle of remembrance in one’s home.

May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
