Ethics report highlights Trudeau government’s corrupt, unethical behaviour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, ON – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Ethics, and Jacques Gourde, MP for Lévis—Lotbinière, issued the following statement on the Ethics Committee’s report on Trudeau’s WE scandal:

“The Ethics Committee report released today shows just how comfortable the Liberals are with unethical and corrupt behavior. This report outlines in detail how Justin Trudeau gave a half-billion-dollar contract to the WE Charity, an organization run by well-connected Liberals, who paid Justin Trudeau’s family members over half a million dollars in fees and expenses.

“Unfortunately, Canadians have witnessed Liberal corruption and scandal-plagued Ottawa for too long. An organization that paid $20,000 to fly the Prime Minister’s wife abroad for an event, and spent over $10,000 to produce and promote campaign-style advertising for Justin Trudeau, was rewarded with a half-billion-dollar government contract. For Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, this is business as usual.

“The pattern of unethical conduct from the Trudeau Liberals documented in the report speaks for itself. In their attempt to hide the truth from Canadians, Liberal ministers misled the Committee, sealed documents, and used every tool at their disposal to cover up their corruption. On top of all of this, when Bill Morneau was fired for his role in the WE scandal, Justin Trudeau shut down Parliament during a pandemic to avoid accountability for this scandal.

“While Canada’s accountability laws may be broken, the report shines a light on a troubling pattern of Liberal corruption. It is time to clean up the mess and end the abuse by insiders.

“More scandals. More corruption. More cover-ups. That’s what Canadians can expect from Justin Trudeau and the Liberals. There is only one choice to end this corruption and secure accountability in Ottawa – Canada’s Conservatives.”
