Ottawa, ON – Andrew Scheer, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Communities, released the following statement calling on the Liberals to stop blocking the work of the Transport Committee and to be transparent with Canadians:

“Justin Trudeau’s signature project, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, has committed $655 million in taxpayers’ money to ITC holdings, a subsidiary of Fortis Inc., which is worth billions of dollars.

“The details of this agreement have been kept secret. In the spirit of transparency, Conservatives brought forward a reasonable motion to shine a light on the terms of this deal, while at the same time respecting the privacy of the parties involved.

“Shockingly, instead of openness and transparency, the Liberals on the Transport Committee have chosen to talk out the clock, desperate to keep the details of this multi-million dollar deal a secret.

“These stalling tactics and the blocking of important reports raise serious questions about what the Liberals are working so hard to keep hidden.

“Conservatives are calling on the Liberals to be honest with Canadians. The Liberals must come clean about the details of their secret multimillion-dollar deal and allow the committee to get on with its important work.”
